I actually just used a small, offset spatula. I’d recommend refrigerating the cake once the base icing is on and then applying the mountains once the base is cold. I hope it works out for you!

Hi Michelle, Thank you so much! I did use the very same buttercream for the mountains and trees on the side of the cake. SMBC is a great icing to work with for decorating in addition to base frosting!

The blue thing is a glass insulator. It was a common feature in the lighting and much of the decor, so we integrated it onto the cake. The roses are actually made from pages of a Harry Potter book that Sierra found at a thrift store! They were also scattered around amongst the centerpieces. And yes, it’s called “Colorful Colorado” for a reason!
